Woman Accused Of Stealing Packages From Doorsteps

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Deputies arrested a woman after she allegedly stole a number of packages that were sitting on doorsteps in a Sacramento neighborhood on Thursday.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said Jamie Bowman, 33, was arrested along American River Drive after an alert resident spotted her snooping around the neighborhood and followed her until authorities arrived.

When deputies searched Bowman's parked car, they found a number of packages that had been delivered Thursday and dropped off on residents' doorsteps.

"This happens all the time this time of year," said Deputy Joe Campoy. "People trying to get presents the easy way for their family.

Deputies said Bowman admitted to the thefts and said she didn't have enough money to buy her own presents.

Bowman was booked into jail on theft charges.

Authorities have taken the packages into custody as evidence but hope to return them to their rightful owners by Christmas.
