West Sacramento Man Found Guilty Of Sexually Abusing 7-Year-Old Daughter
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A West Sacramento man faces a life sentence after being convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing his 7-year-old daughter.
A Yolo County jury on Tuesday found Michael Martinez guilty of 47 counts of child molestation and five counts of possessing matter depicting sexual acts by a minor.
The West Sacramento Police Department began investigating the case after receiving a tip that Martinez was sexually abusing his daughter. With the assistance of the FBI, West Sacramento officers searched Martinez's home.
Investigators found 20 videos on Martinez's cell phone of Martinez engaging in sexual acts with the victim.
Martinez initially confessed to the crimes but denied it on the stand.
Deputy District Attorney Sara Abrate prosecuted the case and praised the team effort of law enforcement. "West Sacramento Police detectives did an outstanding job investigating this case and the FBI diligently found extremely helpful evidence after analyzing the defendant's phone," Abrate said in a prepared statement.
"The District Attorney's Victim Services Division and Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center provided this courageous young girl amazing support throughout the case."
Martinez is scheduled to be sentenced June 25. Martinez faces a life sentence in state prison.
