Victim's Mom Has Harsh Words For Hit-And-Run Suspect
STOCKTON (CBS13) -- The news that the suspect in a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 3-year-old boy was arrested in Southern California gave little comfort to the victim's mother.
Aushua McDuff-Brown was spotted by a Greyhound bus passenger on the way to Los Angeles on Wednesday, about 300 miles away from Stockton, and was soon arrested by U.S. Marshals.
Stockton investigators said they still consider her the culprit in the violent death of 3-year-old Ruben Ramirez, who died Monday afternoon after McDuff-Brown allegedly tried to run down another woman during an altercation, accidentally striking the boy instead.
The silver Ford that McDuff-Brown was driving has not been located.
Ruben's mother, Deleshia Mason, said the news of the suspect's arrest did nothing to soothe the anguish of her son's death.
"I thought I would be happy, I thought something would move in my body, but I just stayed the same," Mason said. "It ain't going to bring back my son."
Mason said she hopes the prosecution throws the book at McDuff-Brown, saying that she hopes the suspect never smiles again.
"She needs to die, or rot in hell or jail," she said. "The only thing that makes me smile is my son and I don't get to see my son smile no more."
Stockton detectives have traveled to Southern California to question the suspect. McDuff-Brown is expected to be transported back to Stockton within a few days.
