UC President Expects Quick Response From Chancellor On Pepper Spray Report

DAVIS (AP) — The University of California president's office expects the chancellor of UC Davis to respond quickly to a critical report on the pepper-spraying of student demonstrators last fall.

Peter King, a spokesman for the UC president, said Thursday that Chancellor Linda Katehi is expected to present a plan soon "to deal with this mess and make this right."

On Wednesday, a task force led by a retired California Supreme Court justice issued a report that blamed the November incident on poor planning, communication and decision-making at all levels of the university administration.

It particularly criticized Katehi, campus Police Chief Annette Spicuzza and Lt. John Pike, whose pepper-spraying of seated students was videotaped and aired around the world.

A UC Davis spokesman says Katehi will respond "as quickly as she can."
