Twins Accused Of Trying To Murder Parents Say A Family Fight Spiraled Out Of Control

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The twins accused of trying to murder their parents over the weekend say it was a family fight that spiraled out of control.

Cody and Kevin Martinez, both 26, face attempted murder charges after police say they attacked their mom and stepdad with a knife on Sunday night at a Del Paso Heights apartment.

Filled with tears and regret, Cody says he was pushed to the edge.

"She knows that I would never doing anything like that to her," he said. "Something just clicked. Something just snapped. I was like eff this."

He says the family fight happened in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The twins were celebrating their birthday that night and Cody bought Kevin a present.

"I got him a knife because he likes knives. And I got myself a knife too," he said.

He says he and his stepdad got into a heated argument over a family matter. He claims he was punched in the face, and it exploded from there.

"I was just tired of it and I just snapped and I stabbed him three times in the stomach," he said.

His mom tried to intervene.

"My mom of course was trying to break s--- up and got in the way," he said.

What happened next, he said, was an accident.

"She grabbed my arm," he said, sobbing. "And she grabbed my arm and I went like this and that's when I cut her."

Kevin says he never used a knife on his stepdad, but says he punched him once in the face while Cody slashed.

"I was scared I didn't know what to do and I panicked and I should have stayed," he said.

The twins hid from police, but were arrested the next morning. Police say they were in the middle of buying heroin from a drug dealer when the cops recognized their car.

Hoping his mother is watching, Cody has a message for her.

"Messed up," he said, sobbing. "Sorry Mom. I love you."

The twins are expected back in court on Wednesday.
