Forward progress of Turkey Fire stopped near Camanche Reservoir in Calaveras County
Crews were battling a vegetation fire that was threatening structures near Camanche Reservoir in California's San Joaquin Valley, officials said Wednesday evening.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's (Cal Fire) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit said the blaze, dubbed the Turkey Fire, was burning in the area of Turkey Hill Trail and Parrison Road in the Wallace area of Calaveras County.
By 8:30 p.m., fire officials said the forward progress of the flames had been stopped. The latest Cal Fire report had the fire's size at 48 acres. Cal Fire had previously said the fire was a "moderate rate of spread" and was threatening structures in the area.
As of Thursday morning, Cal Fire reported 46% containment of the wildfire.
A mandatory evacuation was issued by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office for zone CCU-053 around 7:15 p.m. Zone CCU-052 was under a level two evacuation warning. Those orders have since been lifted.
About 130 personnel were assigned to the fire. Some agencies responding to the fire include the East Bay Municipal Utility District, Calaveras Consolidated Fire, San Andreas Fire and Angels City Fire.
