Female Students Concerned After Sexual Assault Reported At Delta College
STOCKTON (CBS13) - Students are on alert and campus police looking for the attacker after woman reported being held against her will in a stairwell and sexually assaulted at San Joaquin Delta College.
Delta College police say the student was walking down the enclosed stairwell of the Locke Building around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon when the attacker came out of nowhere.
"He grabbed her around the waistband, pulled her into the corner of the stairwell," Sgt. Robert Di Piero said. "He grabbed her breast. She was able to fight and get away."
Police say the suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s wearing a green zip-up hoodie and blue jeans.
The student reported the incident on Monday and news of it spread quickly among other female students.
"I'm scared," Jasmine Flores said. "I don't want to be out here by myself because I don't want anything to happen to me."
Students were surprised to hear an attack happened in broad daylight and with a police department on campus.
But now, some are calling for additional security.
"I feel there should cameras in the stairwells to make sure things like this don't happen," Danielle Broadway said.
The attack has some wondering if the man knew the stairwell wouldn't be as busy on Friday afternoon when there are typically fewer students on campus.
"Maybe that person was watching her," Claudia Hernandez said. "That's why I change my routine around school because somebody could be watching you."
