Storm Blankets The Sierra With Snow
POLLOCK PINES (CBS13) - Skiers and snowboarders are no doubt hoping today's weather is a sign of things to come. We've got a snowy October in the works in the Sierra.
But drivers aren't so eager for the sudden change in conditions that makes for wet and dangerous driving conditions. CBS13's Sean Bennett was live in the Sierra where drivers were putting on tire chains.
On eastbound Highway 50, just east of Pollock Pines, a construction pickup truck drove off the road and came to rest against some trees. The driver was able to crawl out through the driver's side window.
Ploughs were clearing the roads, but not fast enough, as falling snow continued to quickly pile back up.
As of 11 a.m. Monday, here were some of the ski resort snow totals:
Sugar Bowl:15"
Soda Springs: 14"
Northstar: 12"
There are still lighter snow showers falling above 4,000 feet.
We should expect another surge of mountain snow, and possible valley shower and thunderstorms, as more moistures wraps back around this storm system later Monday afternoon and into the evening.
