Stolen Falcon Found Alive In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An injured falcon that was stolen from its owner's car Thursday is safe and being treated at a local animal hospital.

Dr. Omar Cabrera of the Bird and Pet Clinic of Roseville said the falcon was found abandoned in a dumpster outside the Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic in Sacramento on Friday night.

The bird had been stolen out of a pickup truck in Rancho Cordova after its owner was forced to delay his return to Reno due to the snow in the Sierra, and since it was still bandaged and medicated after undergoing surgery, doctors feared it would die quickly without treatment.

Despite being gone for 24 hours, the bird appears to on track for recovery, Dr. Cabrera said.

"Honestly I wasn't too optimistic about it, but I was really happy when I got the news this morning," he said. "It definitely has a great chance of pulling though."

No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made in the theft.
