South Sacramento Mother Accused Of Keeping Drugs In Apartment With Kids
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A south Sacramento woman is in jail on drug and felony child endangerment charges after officers reportedly found her under the influence of methamphetamine and there were lots of hard drugs in reach of her young kids in the home.
Neighbors at Willow Pointe Apartments in south Sacramento can't believe a young mom is accused of such a horrible crime.
Investigators say Sheena Tyler, 29, put her children in serious jeopardy.
"Deplorable conditions all the way around," Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said.
Her 3-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy had been living with her there.
"It was pretty clear from inside the apartment this was no type of environment the children should be in," Ramos said.
The children reportedly had no place to sleep and drugs were allegedly within reach. A neighbor called Child Protective Services but several strange men stopped them at the door on Friday.
"They were turned away by people in the apartment saying 'No, you're not going to come in here," Ramos said.
The next day deputies forced their way in, arrested Tyler and removed the children.
A lot of neighbors at the apartment complex say they did not want to speak on camera because they were concerned about their safety, but they did say they were worried about Tyler's kids not just because of the alleged drug abuse but the possibility of prostitution as well.
"I see a lot of prostitutes," one woman said.
Despite armed apartment security guards, Tyler apparently had no problem getting drugs into the apartment.
"I feel like if she is doing other things she's accused of doing then she's not in any position to be a mother," apartment resident Naomi Rosales said.
Tyler's kids were put into protective custody. A check of her criminal record shows she's been behind bars several other times on drug charges.
