Shooting Suspect Found Dead On Bethel Island During Search
BETHEL ISLAND (CBS13) - A suspect who fired shots at officers has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.
Police had been searching for the suspect on Bethel Island in Contra Costa County near Stockton for several hours Wednesday morning.
The incident began around 1 a.m. in Oakley when the suspect refused to pull over for a traffic stop, leading officers on a chase.
At one point, the suspect fired shots at officers. No one was hurt but a patrol car was hit.
The chase ended at Bethel Island where people living near Piper and Sugar Barge roads were urged to stay inside as police searched for the suspect.
The suspect was found dead in his vehicle around 5 a.m.
He has not been identified.
