Sheriff's Deputies Search Drainage Canal For Parole Suspect

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The search is on for an armed suspect who forced deputies to shut down part of a Sacramento neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

A Sacramento County sheriff's deputy tried to make a traffic stop, but with the wanted parolee took off.

Officers thought he went into a drainage canal near Watt Avenue and Don Julio Drive. So they closed off Watt Avenue, and used a robot and tear gas to try to get the suspect out.

"He knows if he's apprehended, he's gonna go back to prison. So he's taking some pretty extreme measures, up to this point, to evade us," said Sgt. Jason Ramos.

When deputies realized he wasn't in the storm drain, they then went door to door with assault rifles, but never found the suspect.
