Second Woman Dies In Nursing Home Accident

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a 100-year-old woman has become the second person killed after a car slammed through the window of a San Jose nursing home Saturday morning.

The Santa Clara County coroner says Suzanne Infante died Sunday morning from injuries suffered in the crash at the Amberwood Gardens Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident.

A second resident, 88-year-old Esther Bocanegra, also was killed and five others were injured when the car drove into a common room where residents were gathering for exercises.

Two of the victims remain hospitalized, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

San Jose police Sgt. Jason Dwyer says the car was driven by a woman visiting a relative at the home who may have mistaken the accelerator for the brake. She has not been identified.
