Schools Won't Make Up Days Lost To Tanker Fire
LINCOLN (CBS13) -- School district officials said they will not need to reschedule the days of class lost to the Northern Yard propane tanker fire.
The West Placer Unified School District was forced to cancel the first day of school at all of their campuses Wednesday after an evacuation zone was ordered Tuesday in a one-mile radius surrounding the rail yard out of fear that a 29,000-gallon propane tank could catastrophically fail.
A rail yard worker was injured when the fire flashed to life Tuesday, but no other serious injuries were reported during successful efforts to extinguish the blaze, which burned until late Wednesday night.
Schools in the area will plan to have their first day of school on Monday, August 29. District officials said schools will not be required to make up the three days lost to the fire because the incident was declared an emergency evacuation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
