Sacramento Police Officer's Patrol Car Hit By Chase Suspect

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A police officer is recovering after a suspect led him on an afternoon chase, then targeted the officer's car to try and make his getaway.

The pursuit was short, but there's now a long list of charges against the person behind the wheel.

Sacramento Police say they tried to stop the suspect near Folsom Boulevard and Power Inn Road after a run of the plates showed the car was reported stolen from Wyoming.

"As officers were about to make contact, the vehicle sped off," said Sgt. Chris Mouzis with the Sacramento Police Department.

Police say the suspect hit two other cars while trying get away, but the suspect didn't stop there.

"The vehicle intentionally drove into one of our officers," Mouzis said.

That crash wrecked the stolen vehicle, allowing officers to arrest the suspect and passenger.

The driver of the stolen car and a Sacramento Police officer were taken to the hospital for what appear to be minor injuries.

The other two drivers who were hit during the chase were not injured.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect. He is facing numerous charges, including assault on a police officer.
