Pug Wakes Up Residents At Burning Citrus Heights Home
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - A persistent pug deserves an extra helping of doggy treats after he alerted his owners to a fire at their home.
Firefighters were called out to a fire at a home in the 7600 block of Woodchuck Way in Citrus Heights at 11:12 p.m. Sunday. A Sacramento Metro Fire spokesperson says when crews arrived at the single-story structure, heavy smoke was billowing from inside and one of the occupants was missing. Firefighters found the occupant in a back room of the home gathering possessions and got them out safely.
Crews put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the home.
The two residents of the home say they were awoken by their 3-year-old pug. Moments later the smoke alarm sounded.
Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by discarded cigarette butts in a patio planter. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
No one was injured in the fire.
