Police: Oakland Monk Attacked Another Monk With Knife

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Police say a 66-year-old Buddhist monk was critically injured after he was stabbed by a fellow monk in a home in the San Francisco Bay Area.

KPIX-TV reports Wednesday that Oakland police say the assault happened Tuesday evening.

The victim was a Buddhist monk from the Branch of International Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks Center, near the location of the assault in East Oakland.

The names of the monks were not released. No arrests have been made.

Monk Chundoeun Phin says one monk attacked the other with two butcher knives.

Phin says he heard the attack and rushed downstairs to find the attack underway. Phin told the station the attacker then dropped the knives and ran away.

Phin says the attacker had only recently joined the monastery. He added that he is in disbelief about the attack.
