Petition Started To Save Sacramento's Dome Theaters
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Crews have already started demolishing Sacramento's well-known movie theater domes, but one man is fighting to save the three that are still standing.
The domes in an Arden-Arcade neighborhood are being torn down for a new theater and retail shopping experience.
"It really shows how the movie going experience has declined," said Jesse Skeen.
PETITION: Save the domes in Sacramento
He is a former projector at the theater and he's fighting to save the last three domes from destruction. His cinematic world is crumbling right before his eyes.
"In a perfect world, I'd like to see this theater restored to what it was in 1968," he said.
With time running out, he's started a petition gathering signatures from other Cinedome enthusiasts around the world. They're asking the Bay Area developer behind the project, Sy-West to stop crushing their dreams and replacing it with what he calls cookie-cutter theaters with no character.
"From what I've seen of the new theater it's just going to be generic and nothing really special," he said.
CBS13 reached out to Sy-West about the petition, but a company spokesperson refused comment.
He still remembers the good ol' dome days when he was a little kid watching the classics, and he hopes to preserve that for a new generation.
"They really took you into another world with how huge they are inside," he said.
