Pedestrian Hit By Light-Rail Train In Downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A pedestrian was hit and trapped underneath a light-rail train in downtown Sacramento on Tuesday afternoon after police say he tried to jump on board.

The train stopped at K Street between Ninth and Eighth streets at about 4:30 p.m. after hitting the man, whose name wasn't immediately available. Sacramento Fire Department rescue workers were able to free the man from underneath the train and move him into an ambulance, where he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police suspect the man may have been intoxicated when he tried to jump onto the moving train.

The extent of the pedestrian's weren't immediately known but he did remain conscious during rescue efforts.

An earlier report that the man was involved in a fight and may have been pushed into the train turned out to be unfounded, police said.

The Blue Line and Gold Line services are both being severely impacted by the accident. A shuttle bus is helping out with delays.
