Officials To Decide Pit Bull's Fate After Repeat Offenses

MANTECA, Calif. (CBS13) -- City council members will soon decide whether to euthanize a dog that has been accused of multiple violent incidents, including the recent death of a neighboring dog.

Neighbors said they heard screaming on Pestana Avenue last week when a pit bull locked into a home jumped out of a second story window and began prowling the neighborhood. Kids returning home from school managed to avoid the dog but a small beagle lying in his driveway did not.

"I guess a random pit bull came and grabbed their dog by the neck and dragged it down the street," said neighbor Cindy Lopez.

The dead beagle was dragged a block and a half down the street.

Investigators say the same dog was accused of six other attacks in Contra Costa County. The owner of the dog and the victim were not available for comment.

The Manteca city council will decide whether the dog should be euthanized Tuesday.
