Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams All Apply To Move To Los Angeles
SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Oakland Raiders have officially filed an application to relocate the franchise to the Los Angeles area.
The Raiders filed the papers Monday night to go back to Los Angeles for the second time. The team left Oakland following the 1981 season before returning from Los Angeles in 1995.
Owner Mark Davis wants to partner with the division rival San Diego Chargers to build a stadium in Carson. The Chargers and St. Louis Rams also filed a relocation application Monday night.
The Chargers, who have played in San Diego for 55 seasons, announced the filing Monday night.
In a video posted on the team's web site, chairman Dean Spanos blamed "the inability of the city at the political level to get any kind of public funding or any kind of vote to help subsidize a stadium."
The Chargers walked away from negotiations with the city and county in mid-June.
