Next Round Of Rain Brings Wind, Flood Warnings
SACRAMENTO (CBS13)- The second wave of storms to drench the valley is expected to hit the Sacramento area Thursday afternoon, prompting wind and flood warnings.
A high wind advisory for the valley and foothills area is in effect from 4 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Sunday. Winds of 15-30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph. Winds will pick up as each round of weather moves in – first Thursday night, then Friday night and again Saturday night.
The first raindrops Thursday in the Sacramento region are expected to fall around 3 or 4 p.m.
There's also a flood watch advisory in effect through Sunday. The valley should receive 4-8 inches of rain and northern locations could receive 12-18 inches.
Mud slides are likely, especially in areas with recent burn scars from summer wildfires in Shasta, Tehama, Colusa and Plumas counties.
Urban and small stream flooding will occur in the valley, the National Weather Service said.
There's also a winter storm warning for the Sierra from 4 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Friday. Elevations above 7,000 feet should receive 6-12 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 65 mph.
The first storm Wednesday dropped .64 of an inch of rain at Sacramento International Airport, .88 in Marysville, .76 in Vacaville and 1.24 up in Blue Canyon.
The average monthly rain total for November and December in downtown Sacramento is just under 6 inches and we could exceed that total in just this week.
The sun should peak out from the clouds on Monday but there's a chance of rain again later in the week.
