Metro Fire now suspects arson in string of Carmichael tree fires
CARMICHAEL — The search for an arson suspect is on after several trees were set on fire around the Carmichael and Citrus Heights areas.
Sacramento Metro Fire confirmed the suspicion that neighbors had is true: that there is an arsonist lighting trees on fire.
The latest happened around 3 a.m. Saturday on Regan Hall Lane in Carmichael. A cypress tree in this home's side yard was blackened, just two days after our initial report on this.
Video obtained by CBS Sacramento shows fire crews hosing down the area to stop the flames from spreading.
Metro Fire said that this was one of at least three fires that night, and there have been at least seven or eight fires over the past two weeks that they believe were the work of an arsonist.
Metro Fire noted that the fires have happened with cypress trees, oleander and bushes. Taller trees that light up quickly like a candle appear to be the target.
