Meth Found In System Of Dead Oakdale Infant; Mother Named Person Of Interest

OAKDALE (CBS13) - There's a mystery surrounding the death of a baby, months after she passed away. Police now say the infant had methamphetamine in her system when she died.

However, investigators will not say how the baby died. Rescuers rushed the baby girl to the hospital where she died. Now, two months later, investigators are learning the newborn had the dangerous and deadly drug in her system.

Oakdale police say the toxicology report revealed high levels of meth in the baby's blood. But detectives won't say if the drug killed the almost 6-week-old baby girl.

Officers received a call for help in early December. They say the baby's mother frantically told 911 dispatchers that her daughter wasn't breathing.

Detectives questioned the mother and her husband, who is not the baby's biological father. They also searched the home on Obsidian Drive, but, officers say, there were no red flags, at least not right away.

No one answered the door Wednesday where neighbors say the family lives.

Detectives say the baby's autopsy showed abnormalities, so they went back to the home and continued to investigate. However, they aren't saying how meth got into the baby's system.

According to the Oakdale Leader, police are looking into the possibility the baby ingested the meth through breast milk.

The news article also says, the mother missed a scheduled interview date and has since moved from the home, and that police have named her a person of interest.

The family has two older children, who were not harmed.

The district attorney is assisting with the investigation.
