Man Involved In Shooting Near School Linked To Stockton Homicide

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A man involved in a gunfight with Stockton police near a middle-school Wednesday is now facing murder charges in a recent July homicide.

During an ongoing investigation, officials say they discovered evidence linking 19-year-old Juan Barnes to the shooting death of 22-year-old John Newton. His body was discovered on July 5 in the 1400 block of Marco Polo Drive.

Barnes was already booked in San Joaquin County Jail following a shooting near August Knodt School. He was found on the rooftop of the school with a handgun after fleeing from police.
