Man In 'Captain America' Mask Robs 2 Modesto Businesses
MODESTO (CBS13) - A man wearing a superhero mask robbed two Modesto businesses on Monday, police said.
The first robbery occurred at about 2 p.m. at the Check 'N' Go Cashing located at 1717 Oakdale Road in northeast Modesto.
The suspect, who was wearing a "Captain America" mask, entered the business, brandished a handgun and demanded money. He walked behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from a register. The suspect then exited the business and was seen fleeing in a white sedan, possibly a Ford Focus.
As officers were investigating the Check 'N' Go robbery, a second robbery was reported at about 2:30 p.m. at the William Douglas Jewelry store, located at 3020 Floyd Avenue, also in northeast Modesto.
Employees at the jewelry store reported a suspect armed with a gun and also wearing a "Captain America" mask entered the business and demanded money. The suspect was able to take an undisclosed amount of money from the business before fleeing in a white passenger sedan.
The suspect description in both robberies is similar and investigators believe one person committed both crimes. He is described as in his mid-20s to 30s, anywhere from 5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet tall, with a heavy build.
In addition to the mask, he was wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt and black pants.
