Officers Injured Following Fight with Suspect

SACRAMENTO (CBS13)- Two West Sacramento Police Officers injured this morning from a violent encounter with a suspect.

Sergeant Kinney from West Sacramento Police Department tells us the two officers were called to Pecan Court at 5:20AM in West Sacramento for a 23 -year-old man causing a disturbance on an acquaintances front lawn.

Officers went to question the man when he became uncooperative and violent. The man wrestled officers for a few minutes when he tried to grab one of the officers firearms, but didn't succeed.

Police tell us back up was called and there was assistance from Sacramento Police. The man was detained and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Kinney says one officer suffers minor injuries and the second officer was taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening  injuries. The second officer will to be in the hospital for a few day but is expected recover.

The 23-year-old suspect is facing charges of felony to resisting arrest, felony for assaulting a police officer and trying to take a police officers weapon.
