Inmate Killed At California State Prison-Sacramento

FOLSOM (CBS13) - Authorities are investigating an inmate death at California State Prison-Sacramento as a homicide.

Correctional officers reportedly found the 53-year-old inmate in his cell unresponsive around 8:20 p.m. Monday. Prison staff administered life-saving measures on the inmate but were unsuccessful in reviving him. The inmate was pronounced dead at 8:48 p.m., according to a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The inmate's identity is being withheld, pending notification of next-of-kin. He was serving a life sentence, with the possibility of parole, for first-degree murder. The incident happened in Marin County, and the inmate had been in prison since June 1983.

Rambo M. Martin, 26, was the inmate's cellmate and is being investigated for his murder. Martin is serving two sentences: an 8-year sentence for committing an assault with a firearm, and a 4-year-sentence for assault with a deadly weapon.

Martin has been in prison since November 2013.
