Human Case Of West Nile Virus Detected In Sutter County

SUTTER COUNTY (CBS13) - A woman living in Sutter County has been diagnosed with the West Nile virus, the county's first human case since 2007.

The woman is recovering at home, according to county health officials.

West Nile virus is active in Sutter County. The Sutter County Mosquito and Vector Control District has been testing collections of mosquitoes for West Nile virus and has been finding positive tests in mosquitoes from around the county since June 25.

Three positive dead birds in Sutter County have been reported to the state Department of Public Health so far this year.

As the summer progresses into late fall, the risk for infection for humans, horses, and other mammals increases, health officials said.
