Girl Found In Park Died Of Blunt Force Trauma, Asphyxia And Stabbing
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento County Coroner officially released the cause of death for Jessica Fund-Haslam, the 13-year-old found dead at a ballpark in Rosemont earlier this week.
The coroner says Jessica died from combine blunt force head trauma, asphyxia and a stab wound of the neck.
Although officials now know what caused the death of the Einstien Middle School eighth-grader, detectives have not been able to find her killer.
Jessica was found early Tuesday morning inside a dugout at Rosemont Community Park near her school.
Jessica's mother, Tara Funk-Haslam, says Jessica left her home Monday night after they'd argued at about 5:30 p.m., the last time anyone says they saw her alive.
"She was wanting to go out and see somebody. She wouldn't tell me who," Tara said Wednesday. "I had tried to keep her home too much. I didn't want her to go out at night."
On Friday, Jessica's classmates at Einstein Middle School plan to wear her favorite colors and hold a lunch event where they will share their memories of her.
Sheriff's Flyer Seeking Information
On Wednesday night, friends and family held a candlelight vigil for Jessica at the park where her body was found.
Asked what she though about dozens of people out to remember Jessica, her mother said "happy but it's sad at the same time because people are coming out when she's gone instead of when she is here."
