Former Police Chief To Investigate UCD Pepper Spray
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — University of California President Mark Yudof is calling on former Los Angeles police chief William Bratton to investigate the pepper spray incident at the UC Davis campus last Friday.
Yudof said Tuesday that he has asked Bratton to report back to him within 30 days.
Bratton, who also led the New York City police department, now heads a private consulting firm and is an expert in community policing. His report will be presented to an advisory panel of students, faculty, staff and other UC community members.
Yudof also has asked for a system-wide examination of policing protocols and policies at all 10 UC campuses.
UC Davis police doused students with painful pepper spray during a peaceful anti-Wall Street protest on campus, sparking national outrage.
