Elk Grove McDonald's Employee Picked To Work At London Olympics
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - An Elk Grove man is on his way to the Olympic Games; not to compete, but to serve athletes.
The McDonald's assistant manager will work for the golden arches at one of the restaurants in London.
Karim Parra may not be going for the gold, but this is the Olympics for him. The Elk Grove assistant manager will be working at McDonald's serving athletes and customers in London.
"It was my day off, my boss called me and says, 'you know what, you're going to the Olympics.' I was just floored. It was so exciting," said Parra.
Parra was only one of four McDonald's workers in the United States picked through a long selection process, which included speed and customer service.
"I've never been part of an event of this magnitude and I've never been overseas," said Parra. "I'm a little nervous right now."
But his co-workers say he'll represent team McDonald's well across the pond.
"Who doesn't like an enthusiastic person who's outgoing, smiles, and he's never sad?" said co-worker Leticia Yasay.
"A lot of pride to be on this; hard to describe, but extremely happy, of course," said Parra.
There is one sport he's most looking forward to during his 9-day trip.
"I'm a big basketball fan. I want to see Team USA," said Parra.
If they go for the gold, he should get a chance to see them play.
If he serves swimming sensation Michael Phelps, his co-workers are hoping he doesn't forget to get a few mementos.
"Autograph, picture, Speedo, that's it," said Parra.
Parra leaves Tuesday. He was the only McDonald's employee picked in the Western United States.
