Davis Boy's 911 Call Leads To Arrest of Burglary Suspect
DAVIS (CBS13) - A 12-year-old who was home alone hid from a burglary suspect and called Davis police, leading to the man's arrest.
The incident began when the boy heard someone knocking at the front door of his residence on Layton Drive in east Davis. He did not answer the door and did not make any noise, accordng to Lt. Paul Doroshov. Moments later, the boy observed a male suspect in the backyard. The boy ran into a bathroom at the back of the house, locked the door, and called 911.
The suspect managed to gain entry into the home by forcing the side door that leads into the garage open. He took some property and fled, police said.
Responding officers detained and arrested 37-year-old Kyle Frank of Placerville. Property taken from inside the victim's residence was reportedly found in Frank's possession. After a brief investigation, Frank was arrested for burglary and later booked at the Yolo County Jail.
Davis police say Frank could be connected to another burglary that occurred on Albany Avenue in Davis earlier Thursday.
It's the second time a 12-year-old home alone has called 911 to report a burglary recently. On Feb. 13, a boy called police to report a break-in at a Caravaggio Drive home in Wildhorse after someone rang the doorbell and the boy didn't answer. The suspect in that incident fled before police arrived, but officers found evidence of an attempted break-in.
Police didn't say if the Frank is suspected in the February incident.
The police department said it has been patrolling more in residential areas because of a rash of burglaries that have been taking place during the daytime recently. There have been more than 50 reported burglaries in Davis since the beginning of the year.
