Clean Clothes Linked To Better Attendance In A Fairfield School
SACRAMENTO (CBS13)- A Fairfield school received a washer and dryer through a Whirlpool pilot program after a teacher learned that washing students clothes at her personal home made their class attendance improve.
Principal Martha Lacy of David Weir Preparatory Academy told us, "If you don't do well in school it's difficult to continue want to get an education."
She talked about a fourth-grader from a family of six used to miss 40 to 60 days, but after her family received their laundry back clean, the child was back to school.
"Last year I had a certain percentage of students who missed more than 20 days a year and at the end of this year and that number has drastically dropped," said Lacy.
This pilot program offers the washers and dryers at no charge to school districts and the detergent is free.
