CBS13 Crew Attacked Near Home Of Former Officer Accused Of Sex Crimes
MODESTO (CBS13) - We were attacked while reporting on a story about a former officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty.
A day after Lee Freddie Gaines II was arrested, we wanted to reach out to those close to the officer get their side of the story, but things quickly turned violent. While screaming obscenities, the woman tried to knock the microphone out my hand, then rushed toward my photographer and hit him in the face and grabbed our camera.
Photographer: You can't touch me.
Woman: Yeah, I will touch you. Get me on camera!
Photographer: That's assault.
Woman: Good, good, get the F*** out of here.
The home we went to is a listed address of the former Modesto police officer who was arrested Thursday on charges of committing sex crimes against a woman while he was in uniform and on duty.
Andrea: Is this your husband or your son?
Woman: Doesn't matter.
Andrea: I'm just wondering why you are so upset.
Woman: None of your business!
The woman, who refused to identify herself, then turned around and went back inside the home.
CBS13 is learning more about the allegations against Gaines from the woman who made them. She told the Modesto Bee she works as a massage therapist operating out of a local hotel.
On January 5, the woman received a call for service and less than an hour later, Gaines arrived and said he would arrest her for solicitation of sex. She says he then handcuffed her, forced her to perform a sex act, and left.
Two days later, the victim got in touch with a parole officer who helped her contact Modesto police.
Gaines, a 5-year veteran, resigned after police launched their criminal investigation.
