Buying Tobacco In California? You Now Need To At Least Be 21

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Starting Thursday, anyone buying tobacco in California must be at least 21-years-old.

The Golden State is the second in the country, after Hawaii, to raise the smoking age from 18 to 21.

The Vapor Spot in Midtown Sacramento is preparing for the change.

"For those particular people in that age range, we've been warning them for the past month," said manager Scot Taylor.

There is an exception to the new law: any military personnel with an I.D. card can still buy cigarettes starting at age 18.

Meanwhile, also starting Thursday, e-cigarettes are now banned from public places like schools and hospitals.
