Best Upcoming Pet Adoption Events In Sacramento

By Valerie Heimerich

Animals are increasingly popular members of the family, and Sacramento residents love their pets. The capital city is the proud home of California's "First Dog", Colusa, a corgi-collie mix. Between public and private animal rescue groups, there are many ways to adopt the true love of your life.

Itsie Bitsie Rescue Adoption Days
10363 Fairway Drive
Roseville, CA 95678
(916) 765-6060

Date: Dec. 2 and 3, 2017 and every Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Itsie Bitsie brings very friendly, socialized kittens and the occasional puppy to adoption events; volunteers with the unique nonprofit group bottle-feed kittens and puppies who were abandoned when they were too young to be weaned. Once they are healthy, spayed/neutered and "of age", the young animals are available for adoption into loving homes. As with other nonprofit rescues in the Sacramento region, Itsie Bitsie relies on people to adopt, volunteer and make both monetary and supply donations. More information is available on the group's website and Facebook page.

FUR Rabbit Adoption Event
855 E. Bidwell St.
Folsom, CA 95630
(916) 710-0105

Date: Dec. 2 to 3, 2017 and the first Saturday of each month, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Adoptable house rabbits from FUR (Friends of Unwanted Rabbits) will be part of Petco's December 2017 Adoption Weekend in Folsom, then will resume having adoptions at that location on the first Saturday of every month. The nonprofit takes in abandoned rabbits from Sacramento County's animal shelter; adoptable bunnies are socialized, spayed/neutered and trained to use a litter box. Anyone seeking a pal for their own fixed pet rabbit can bring them along, and nail trims for owned bunnies are available for a small donation.

Friendly cats and kittens from KittyWits will be available for adoption during the December To Be Remembered adoption days. These are playful and affectionate felines who are ready to find the people who will love them forever, and who have received veterinary care and health checks.

Haven Dog Rescue Adoption Days
RRUFF Dog Park

Date: Dec. 13, 2017 and every third Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
