Best Sacramento Restaurants Open On Thanksgiving

Frequently, moms want a day off. They cook day in and day out, and when it comes to a big meal for the family, they just might not want to be bothered. This is especially true if the children are grown and out of the nest. This year, consider treating mom to a very special Thanksgiving dinner. Take her to a new place where she has never been before, making it a double treat. Below you will find five restaurants to choose from that will be serving their holiday best this Thanksgiving. You can choose from eating in a family restaurant, a ship on the river or on a train driving past the river. It is recommended that you make reservations for your holiday plans.

For family dining, enjoy a blast into the past when you take the family to Sammy's Restaurant. This spot has a friendly, family-type of atmosphere where all are welcome. Check out its Facebook page and see how many of the locals enjoy the atmosphere. You can sit at the counter and chat with your neighbor and the staff, or sit at one of the booths or tables in the back. Sammy's will be open Thanksgiving Day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving its holiday special of turkey and trimmings for the great price of $11.95. It has parking behind the building, which has easy access from the side street.

For that romantic setting for your special other half, consider Scott's Seafood on the River. Scott's will be serving a limited menu to accommodate its plated dinner for Thanksgiving, which will run around $23-$24. The restaurant fills up quickly for the holiday, so reservations are required. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. You could also purchase a gift card at Scott's to give to mom to use at her leisure.

For a change in pace, the Delta King Riverboat will be serving Thanksgiving dinner in the Pilot House. The buffet dinner will be offered at the Pilot House from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Take your other half to the Pilot House in the Delta King and enjoy a beautiful view of the river during your meal. Weather permitting, diners will have the option of sitting on the outside deck. The Delta King offers gift cards that can be purchased for special events, and can be ordered by phone.

Only 20 minutes outside of Sacramento, the Sacramento RiverTrain is serving Thanksgiving dinner on the 28th at noon. The train features a gold exterior to reflect the heritage of the Gold Rush and blue waves as a tribute to the Sacramento River that runs alongside the train's tracks. The train is boarded in Woodland. For a nice leisurely meal with the woman in your life, hop the Sacramento RiverTrain for a trip that lasts around three hours and covers 28 miles. Tickets can be purchased online.

The Firehouse Restaurant is steeped in rich history, having been built in 1853 to house Fire Engine Company No. 3. In 1872, No. 3 became the first paid fire department, and in 1923 when the fire company moved to larger accommodations, the building was sold to a private party. The restaurant opened in 1960 and has served locals and dignitaries alike with its fine cuisine. On Thanksgiving Day, the Firehouse Restaurant will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
