Off-Duty Deputy Killed In Crash Was Former Stockton Police Officer

4 p.m. UPDATE: Authorities have identified an off-duty Alameda County Sheriff's deputy killed when a bus crashed into his car as a 10-year veteran of the department.

Alameda County Sheriff Gregory Ahern says Deputy Sroeuy Khin was killed Friday after working a 12-hour shift at San Rita Jail and a day before his 51st birthday. Khin leaves behind a wife and four children.

Ahern said Khin was "one of our hardest working employees."

Khin was killed when a bus carrying Tesla employees crashed into his car east of San Francisco.

The California Highway Patrol says the collision occurred when the deputy's Volkswagen was stopped on the highway and was rear-ended by the bus on the Altamont Pass in Tracy, about 75 miles east of San Francisco.

The Stockton Police Department says Khin was with the department in the early 2000s before going to the Alameda sheriff's office.

ALTAMONT (CBS13) - A crash involving a bus on the way to Stockton Friday morning has left an off-duty sheriff's deputy dead.

The scene is W. Grant Line Road, about seven miles east of the Altamont Pass. A bus and a white Volkswagen were involved in the crash.

One person was killed in the crash, California Highway Patrol confirms. Officers were seen draping a flag over the body.

The victim has since been identified as off-duty local Alameda County Sheriff's deputy Sroeuy Khin, a married father of four. He had just finished an overtime shift at Santa Rita jail, the sheriff's office says.

CHP says the bus was ferrying Tesla employees to Stockton.
