15-Year-Old Ban On Liquor Sales In Oak Park, Tahoe Park Could Be Lifted

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A liquor store ban in one part of Sacramento could be lifted by the city planning and design commission Thursday.

The ban was put in place in 2001 to curb crime and blight within the Broadway-Stockton Special Planning District.

Tahoe Park's Bill Motmans lives near the Broadway and Stockton business corridors. He wants to keep the ban in place, because he says it's worked.

"Let's not introduce potential, problem properties again while we're doing so well," he said.

There is also support to lift the liquor store ban.

Don Meyers lives in Tahoe Park and says its time.

"The quality of life is better, crime is down…the neighborhood has more amenities," said Meyers.

The proposal to lift the ban was triggered by a request of planned 7-11 liquor license at the site of Louie's restaurant on Broadway.
