After the flashing lights, huge mobs and "fanboys", game developers and publishers enticing onlookers to check out their latest product, the veils of the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 (E3 Expo 11) has fallen. But if you thought that was going to be the end of it you've been sadly mistaken. Over the course of the weeks post E3, publishers have been continuing to flood the market with more info about their upcoming titles. This week Sony showcased their 2011 holiday line up in NY and GameCore got a sneak peak at the action. One of the titles that stood out for us was none other than RUIN.
A lair In Ruin
RUIN is a "social action RPG for the PS3 and PS Vita. There's tons of looting, fighting, discovery, leveling up and all the wonderful things you'd expect to find in an rpg. However while most rpgs stop at character development, RUIN tethers your character
development along with your lair development. Your lair is basically your private domain [space] that contains pretty much whatever you want. You're able to customize and upgrade your lair which will not only improve your characters stats but also improve its defensive capabilities.
Taking on Your Enemy
This is one area where the social aspect of RUIN comes into play. RUIN pits you against other players of similar or slightly higher ranking than you and makes you rivals. Your objective is to not only invade your rival's lair but in some cases find and capture valuable artifacts stored by your rival. So it pays to level up your character as well as your lair.
Huge monsters
One of the ways your character can be leveled up is by increasing your fame. Fame is collected by the number of both battles you engage in. The determining factor is the percentage of fame you get from each battle. Win or lose you will get fame however, you'll get more if you smash your enemies.
Getting upclose and personal
But if you think you can be secretive about your achievements you've got another thing coming. The developers of RUIN have introduced quite cleverly yet another social aspect to the game in the form of PUSH notification. AS your rivals create new
artifacts, or level up or achieve something significant, you will find out about it. This is the type of game that will continue even after you've turned off your PS3 or your Vita!
This is how you take out your foes
There's tons of other coolness regarding RUIN that we can't tell you just yet but there's no way we can end this preview without telling what we think is by far one of the coolest things about RUIN. The game as you know is available on both PS3 and the PS Vita. The caveat being at any point during the game (With a few conditions of course to prevent cheaters from well cheating) you can save your progress and whilst your vita is tethered to your PS3 you can essentially pick up exactly where you left off on either platform. We heard this straight from the mouth of the executive producer of RUIN, Travis Williams.
