Voyage Remembered

The voyage was part of recognition of the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade act. The Zong was at the center of a court case in 1783 after 133 slaves were thrown overboard in an insurance scam. The resulting public outrage led to the rise of the Abolitionist movement.
Etna Erupts
Ash and steam rise from the Mount Etna, Sicily, volcano Thursday, March 29, 2007. Etna spouted a "fountain of lava" before slipping back into its fitful slumber, a spokesman for Italy's vulcanology institute said. A small cloud of ash produced by the eruption is floating towards the mainland (Italy), the spokesman said. Etna was last active in December.
