Who Will Win 'Album Of The Year' At Tonight's Grammy Awards?

By Michael Cerio

It's finally here, the biggest night in music.

After two months of speculation and consideration, they'll hand out the hardware in Los Angles tonight and award the best in music at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift will not only kick off the show at 8pm on CBS, but is also the current favorite to take home both Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year. If her massive 1989 tour has taught us anything, it's that the Swift squad is strong, and we're likely to get a surprise guest during her performance. It could be bestie Selena Gomez, or maybe Grammy favorite Justin Timberlake, even possibly the iconic Mick Jagger – all have appeared at some point during her world tour. Maybe she'll shock the world and bring out Kanye West, as a thank you for making her famous.

Less of a lock than a celeb assist for Swift, is a win for Album Of The Year. Despite 1989 being a juggernaut, the critical favorite for 2015 was Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, and seems like a great pick to take home the night's biggest prize. As the Oscars struggle with whiteness, it would be a statement to award an album fully aware and embracing of its blackness. One week after an uproar over Beyoncé not-subtle-enough-for-some performance at the Super Bowl, and likely not long after Kendrick's own statement-making performance during the show, a win for Butterfly would speak volumes. It would also be the first win for Hip Hop since Outkast in 2004.

The biggest surprise of the night though could be neither Swift nor Lamar walking away with the top prize. The Grammys have a history of hard left turns when it comes to their most prestigious award. You might remember Beck's surprising win over Beyoncé this time last year, or perhaps Robert Plant & Alison Krauss' victory over Radiohead and Coldplay in 2009, or Herbie Hancock snatching the prize from Amy Winehouse, Kanye, and Foo Fighters in 2008.

For every Adele win, there's an O Brother, Where Art Thou? Soundtrack that makes this impossible to predict.

Alabama Shakes have seen several nominations before, losing out on Best New Artist in 2013. Could this be a make-good moment? Chris Stapleton's Traveller feels custom-built for an upset as The Grammys love to reward current artists that celebrate yesteryear genres, like Stapleton's old country Americana. And then there's The Weeknd Beauty Behind The Madness, whose lyrics seem too NSFW for The Grammys to make their crown jewel, but stranger things have happened.

It all goes down tonight at 8pm on CBS3. Oil up your David Bowie tattoo and tune in.
