What's Cooking on 1060: Ice Cream Run, Paella Classes, Craft Beers at the Zoo

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The second annual "Jog 'n' Hog" race takes place this Sunday, July 21st, at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley (Bucks County), Pa.

"You run two miles, you stop and eat either a quart or a pint of ice cream, and then you run the two miles back," explains founder Andy Smith (top photo), who notes that this unusual race is being held on National Ice Cream Day.

He says all runners get vanilla ice cream -- but some get creative:

"We had a bunch of people bring their own sundae toppings, so they had sort of utility belts with jimmies and chocolate sauce and cherries and whipped cream!"

Over at Bar Ferdinand in Northern Liberties, chef David Ansill invites you to eat and drink outside with them:

"We're doing it right on Liberties Walk.  We actually do it every weekend: an outside paella, Friday and Saturday nights."

This weekend, Ansill says, they're turning their paella demonstrations into actual paella classes.

In his podcast, he talks about making an extraordinary paella -- plus, his favorite paella memory.

And what about a food and beer festival at the zoo?  The Philadelphia Zoo holds its Summer Ale Festival on Saturday evening, July 20th.

Laura Houston, director of public programs at the zoo, describes what to expect:

"We have over 25 brewers and food vendors coming, so you get a chance to be around the animals, be out in the open, hang out with your friends, and taste many different local... craft  beers, particularly."
