Volunteers Hit The Pavement To Distribute Affordable Care Act Information
By Pat Loeb
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A group of volunteers hit the pavement, Thursday, giving out information about the Affordable Care Act.
Joan Duckenfield took the afternoon off to join the effort to encourage uninsured workers to sign up with the health insurance marketplace. She and a dozen other volunteers canvassed the small businesses on South Street where employees are likely to be part-time and without benefits. One problem with reaching out now is that the website www.healthcare.gov, the only way to sign up for insurance through the marketplace, is still getting more traffic than it can handle.
Advocates say that will ease with time. The deadline to sign up for coverage that starts January first is December 15th. Sign up continues through March 31st.
