Steven Spielberg To Produce 'Blackhawk,' A DC Comics Movie

Philadelphia (CW Philly) — Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg is about to step into foreign territory; he's producing a superhero movie! Spielberg has joined forces with Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. to create Blackhawk, based on the original DC series.

According to the DC Comics website, Blackhawk is "a wartime adventure series focusing on the titular Blackhawk, who commanded a squadron of ace pilots also known as the Blackhawks or the Blackhawk Squadron."

Spielberg recently worked with Warner Bros.to create Ready Player One, and he's looking forward to working with the company again.

"It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring Ready Player One to the screen," Spielberg said. "They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on Blackhawk," he continued.

Chairman of Warner Bros., Toby Emmerich, is also looking forward to another collaboration with Spielberg. 

"We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg's latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can't wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing Blackhawk to movie audiences worldwide," he said.

Kristie Macosko Krieger and Sue Kroll will be producing the film with Spielberg. While it has not been officially announced if he will direct the film, according to Warner Bros., Spielberg will have "an eye toward" directing.
