Proof That College Is Worth The Expense
By Dr. Marciene Mattleman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With much discussion today questioning "is college worth it?", a report in Education Week presents useful data.
A study from the Georgetown Center on College and the Workforce found that college-educated workers in America now make 80% more on average than workers without a college degree.
That wage advantage is twice as much as it was 50 years ago, when workers with a high school diploma could make a competitive salary in manufacturing work.
The report, released recently, documents a shift to a high-skills economy in which more college educated workers are in demand, but not enough are graduating.
Graduate! Philadelphia, an organization that helps adults who have some college credit complete their degree, has assisted six other cities nationally to replicate the program including Louisville, Memphis and Greensboro. Ten more cities are in the queue for this year in an effort to help thousands of adults get to and through college.
An important intervention!
