Professor Opens Art Exhibit Protesting Gun Violence In Philadelphia
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Holy Family University professor is opening a new art exhibit that protests gun violence in Philadelphia.
The traveling exhibit titled "Considering Harm" tackles the tough issue of how gun violence can ravage a community.
"People become numbers. Many times in the news reports, there's no name," says artist and professor Pamela Flynn.
She says she created 29 images over the course of two years. The pieces include photographs, etchings and other forms of artistic expression.
"They are not pieces that memorialize people who are killed; they are pieces that are very confrontational. They have guns in them. Some of them you are actually looking down at a barrel of a gun. And then under each piece, there's an incident involving a gun. And for this exhibit all of the incidents are from Philadelphia," Flynn explains.
One piece shows a gun pointed at a playground.
The exhibit opens Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Seed on Diamond Gallery on Diamond Street.
