Patrick Bertoletti On Winning Wing Bowl 23: 'I Was Shocked'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It was the most dramatic ending in the history of 94WIP's Wing Bowl.

Chicago's Patrick Bertoletti upset defending champion Molly Schuyler in comeback fashion, 444 wings to 440, to win Wing Bowl 23. The previous record for most wings eaten, 363 set in 2014 by Schuyler, was shattered---twice.

"I was shocked," Bertoletti admitted Tuesday on the 94WIP Morning Show.

After the first two 14-minute halves, Schuyler took a nearly insurmountable six-wing lead into the final two-minute round. Bertoletti unfathomably ate 51 wings in the last two-minute period for a thrilling comeback victory.

"She's incredible," Bertoletti said of Schuyler. "I just knew it was close to be honest. I knew I caught up a bunch and I was keeping track of her and I knew I had moved onto my third plate and I guess she was on her third. It was just so close to call. It was a dog fight 'til the end.

"I remember last year, I know I ate 40 [wings] in the last two [minutes] last year," Bertoletti continued. "And I didn't think I could eat any faster, but the wings are so fast. They were perfect wings. The meat was just flying off the bone. I just had to do it. I guess this was the year, I just had to do it."

Bertoletti, who announced he will compete in Wing Bowl 24 to attempt to defend his title, called winning Wing Bowl one of the highlights of his life.

"I was emotional," Bertoletti explained. "It was the biggest win of my career and one of the highlights of my life so far, to be honest."
