New Year's Eve Most Dangerous Time For Drunk Driving Crashes
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Drunk driving incidents seem to spike around New Year's Eve.
Jenny Robinson with AAA says New Years Eve is the most dangerous time for drunk driving crashes:
"In Pennsylvania last year, 41 percent of holiday weekend traffic deaths were related to alcohol use, compared to a 33 percent share of the total traffic deaths for the full year."
She says those are some pretty solid numbers:
"When we looked at the national DUI statistics, we found that the New Year's holiday consistently ranks as the year's deadliest day for alcohol-related fatalities."
So what can you do to stay safe as you celebrate?
"Never get behind the wheel of a car when you've been drinking. Never ride as a passenger with an impaired driver. You can call a taxi, or if you're in Philadelphia you can take mass transit."
